About the NU.in Program

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

"The N.U.in Program was created for those students who are seeking a challenging academic experience with an international edge."

Congratulations on being accepted into Northeastern university's Nu.in Program! In this program, you will have the privilege of studying abroad for your very first semester of college. In Italy, you will make new friends within the Nu.in community and at your host University, John Cabot University. If you are not affiliated with Northeastern University, I hope you still find my other posts helpful in planning or returning from your trip or study abroad experience in Rome.

Leaving your home country for your first time away from home can be scary, but we hope that with the help of this guide, you will fall in love with Rome. I know I did! This post is meant to give you a better understanding of what the NU.in program is all about.

First, the NU.in program is a chance for freshmen to study abroad for their first semester of college. This sounds scary, but the university offers some opportunities to meet your future classmates. The first chance you'll get to meet other NU.in students is at a NU.in accepted students day. Once you're accepted to the program, you will be invited to choose a day to visit Northeastern's Boston campus, where you'll hear from alumni from all location offerings with chances to ask questions. This event is for students interested in any locations however, once you enroll, you will be able to choose from one of three pre-departure orientations (PDO) the summer before you leave, where you'll get the chance to meet the students you'll be going to your location with. My advice for you PDO is to introduce yourself to as many people as possible. In my PDO I stuck with only two girls and didn't force myself to meet more people. Don't do this! I suggest meeting as many people as you can so you go into your semester already knowing people.

You will also be given the opportunity to sign up for a group flight. My year, Northeastern hosted group flights from Boston and New York City. I did the flight from New York and it was such a good decision. I met my best friend at the airport! This is another opportunity to meet more people, so take it!

One important thing to know before choosing your NU.in location is if the college you're enrolled in meets the requirements for the abroad university. For the Fall 2021 semester, the Rome location is accepting students from the following Northeastern colleges:
